Rustic Mountain cabin - Sink Shack Airbnb

Tucked away between two valleys in the Kouga Mountains is the Sink Shack. It has recently been rebuilt from old ruins into a wild rustic mountain cottage for nature lovers enjoying the rolling hills covered in indigenous fynbos. Cladded with a zinc exterior to give it the sink look, and creatively, filled with windows to maximise mountain scape views. Due to the remote location of this cabin, everything runs off grid, meaning gas appliances, infinite supply of candlelight and fresh water stored in tanks. This enables you to purely enjoy the experience of living alone in the mountains.

The cabin is an open plan living area sleeping up to 6 guests with a double bed and two bunks. The large dining table gives way to a fully equipped self-catering kitchen along with some “honesty box” food supplies such as pickled fruits and jams. A centralised indoor log fire place keeps the entire cabin cosy and encourages you to lie around on comfy couches, snuggle up on cooler nights and play board games in a candle lit atmosphere. In front of the cabin there is a large undercover stoep with another dining table to enjoy the outdoors with some shade from the hot sunny days. Out here you will also find a large fire pit to gather around under the biggest tree in sight. This rustic accommodation offers outside bathroom facilities in their own shelters. A long drop toilet to save water, or a flushing toilet as an alternative choice along with a bucket shower heated by a donkey (wood fired geyser).

This property is vast and offers many different hiking trails and viewpoints. From the Sink Shack you can take a short stroll to ancient bushman paintings - or Die Tronk (the Prison) which is down the valley to a massive drop off, this is said to be a place of entering and no return. A must would be catching a sunset at the farms trig beacon, reaching 980meters above sea level, this is the perfect spot for panoramic mountains views! Pack a picnic to snack on whilst watching the mountains transition through sorts of colours! You can also access the river from their farm by taking a short 4x4 drive before then hiking down the valley with the river alongside the cliff faces which is truly beautiful. 4x4 tracks link you throughout the farm, taking you to scenic viewpoints.

The Sink Shack offers a truly South African wild experience set amongst the mountains with the most peaceful sounds of nature and wind whispering through fynbos landscapes. Its a great getaway for family time where everyone, including your pets can roam freely with many activities for a range of people.
