The Wilderness is a small coastal town on diverse rocky and sandy shores at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains in the Western Cape. It is a truly beautiful destination and a cute town filled with friendly people. After spending a good amount of time in the area we've found 4 romantic & quirky stays you should definitely check out for an incredible experience in the wild!
After a short stroll through the dense fynbos you set eyes on the tiny wooden cladded cabin filled with funky windows. A wrap around deck brings you to the front of the cabin where bold mountain scapes are framed by the trees and where an outdoor hot water shower immerses you in nature. Glass French doors open into the cabin with its pink corduroy couch overlooking the views and the bed tucked behind. The brightly coloured furniture and many windows fill the cabin with light and picturesque views. A small kitchenette allows for self-catering - perfect size for two.
This 12 meter shipping container has been converted into a modern open plan living space for two. With a view over the valley and rolling hills, this north facing container is about spectacular sunsets. Two large sliding doors and the side door allows an enormous amount of fresh air and light to flow. A cosy lounge area with a two person dining table and desk, a fully equipped self catering kitchen, along with a record player keeps you in a groove. The double bed overlooks the hills with an ensuite and large indoor bath. Just below one can find a yoga deck and chairs to relax.

Arriving in the Wilderness forest to the sound of birds chirping and bees buzzing you will find a wood cladded fence where your driveway ends. Stepping around the corner, you are graced with the most peaceful scene - a little vintage caravan with yellow stripes, string banners welcoming you onto the outdoor lounging deck area overlooking the Outeniqua Mountains framed by indigenous trees with an outdoor shower - perfect for absorbing the views. Entering the caravan you have a kitchenette area along with a dining booth and couch. On the other end is the bed with wraparound windows maximising forest views.

Entering this property instantly gave a sense of peace and tranquillity, with a breathtaking view over the valley onto the Outeniqua mountain range with the sound of bees buzzing and a trickling stream. Approaching the cabin we have an outdoor braai area with a hammock to relax under the tree and an abundance of wood supplied. This cabin came to life from a funky half tone VW van converted into a mobile home with a fixed bed in the back now being the main bedroom. The van is now stationary with the extension of the deck built around to incorporate a self catering kitchen and lounge facing the mountains with a rooftop as well as some open air deck area out front. This is the best spot to catch the sunset as it goes down over the mountains. As a last touch, a little stroll into the indigenous forest and you'll find your private outdoor shower!
